    Vietnam has defined the theme of its National Pavilion at EXPO-2017 as: "Fusion of Traditional and Modern – Vietnam’s Future Energy”.
    Within the frames of its participation, Vietnam is planning a number of culture events. On August 29, the National Day of Vietnam will be held at the Exhibition; and in honor of 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, holding of Days of Culture of Vietnam in Kazakhstan is planned.

    Vietnam has extended an Indian oil concession in the South China Sea and begun drilling in another area it disputes with China in moves that could heighten tensions over who owns what in the vital maritime region.
    The moves come at a delicate time in Beijing's relations with Vietnam, which claims parts of the sea, and India, which recently sent warships to monitor the Malacca Straits, through which most of China's energy supplies and trade passes.
    Vietnam granted Indian oil firm ONGC Videsh a two-year extension to explore oil block 128 in a letter that arrived earlier this week, the state-run company's managing director Narendra K. Verma told Reuters.
    Part of that block is in the U-shaped 'nine-dash line' which marks the vast area that China claims in the sea, a route for more than $5 trillion in trade each year in which the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Taiwan also have claims.

    The Netherlands-based Uber BV will have to pay taxes owed both by itself and its drivers, the Vietnamese finance ministry has decided.
    Uber BV issues invoices for rides and handles revenues in Vietnam, but pays no taxes.
    According to the decision, the taxi hailing company will have to authorize its subsidiary in Vietnam or a third party to declare and pay those taxes.

    The Hanoitimes - A Vietnamese Exhibition pavilion, combining tradition and modernity, has received hundreds of visitors in the last few days, at Expo 2017 Astana, in the capital of Kazakhstan.

    Expo 2017 is an International Exposition scheduled to take place between June 10 and September 10, 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The expo's theme is “Future Energy”, and aims to create a global debate between countries, nongovernmental organizations, companies and the general public on the crucial question: “How do we ensure safe and sustainable access to energy for all while reducing CO2 emissions?”.

    A delegation of Vietnam’s Embassy, Consulate General in Yekaterinburg city and Business Association in Russia visited Sverdlovsk province from July 12-15 to seek cooperation opportunities with Russian localities.
    Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Son, who led the delegation, met with Governor Evgeny Kuyvashev and Minister of International and Foreign Economic Relations Andrey Sobolev. The ambassador told hosts that President Tran Dai Quang’s visit to Russia from June 28-July 1 has opened up conditions for inter-regional cooperation between Vietnam and Russia.

    HANOI — Vietnamese activist blogger Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh — better known by her pen name Mother Mushroom — was sentenced in court Thursday to 10 years imprisonment for "propagating" against the state following a devastating chemical spill at a Taiwan-owned steel factory.

    "This is an extreme injustice and cruelty given out by the authoritarian (government) as they want to silence my daughter," Quynh's mother, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Lan, told dpa after she attended the trial.

    oàng Xuân Vinh has retained his position as the world’s top 10m air pistol shooter with 2,542 points, according to the July 2017 men’s rankings from the International Shooting Sport Federation.
    Matsuda Tomoyuki of Japan and Wu Felipe Almeida of Brazil were the runners-up with 2,168 and 1,570 points, respectively.
    Vinh has held the position since the Rio Olympics in 2016 with his strong results in recent international shooting events.

    Vietnam sports held a significant position in the country's cultural field and have always played a pivotal part in the cultural development of Vietnam.

    QUẢNG BÌNH — A large part of the movie Người Bất Tử (The Immortal), directed by Vietnamese American director Victor Vũ, will be shot in the magnificent caves of Quảng Bình Province.

    The Vietnamese movie, scheduled to be released in 2018, will be filmed in 52 days in Hà Nội; the central provinces of Hà Nam, Hưng Yên and Quảng Bình; HCM City; and the southern provinces of Tiền Giang and Đồng Nai, revealed production director Trần Thị Bích Ngọc.

    The footage filmed in central province of Quảng Bình will make up around 70 per cent of the movie. It will be shot in several caves including Phong Nha and Tú Làn, Đồng Hới City and Quy Đạt, Bố Trạch and Tuyên Hóa districts, capturing the scenic landscapes and the beauty of the cave system in Quảng Bình.
